One Of The Best Parts Of The Celtics Season Is How Their Dominance Continues To Break The Brains Of The NBA's Media

There have been a lot of very enjoyable aspects of the Celtics' first 35 games of the season. We've seen an emergence of Bald Derrick White, the new guys in Porzingis and Holiday have fit like a glove, the two franchise players are continuing to expand their game and seem truly focused on what matters this season (a title), Joe is getting better and better with each passing game etc.

But perhaps my favorite part of their start might be that there's suck a lack of drama surrounding them this season that the media is scrambling to drum up something to generate clicks/attention. Last week it was Colin Cowherd, who couldn't help himself and tried to make the case that a 25 year old Jayson Tatum's title window was closing, but that a 25 year old SGA's window was wide open

You see, this is what happens any time the Celtics lose a game. Things have to be taken to the extreme because these guys know myself and Celts fans everywhere won't be able to leave it alone. Even though everyone with a brain understands how outrageous of a statement this is, you can understand why Cowherd does it. It's his schtick.

The thing is, this isn't just a Colin Cowherd problem. How about the NBA's own media at NBA.com?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what's happening here. OKC beat the Celtics which of course that means we should ignore everything else that happened last week. You know, like the Thunder immediately losing to the Hawks and Nets in back to back games while the Celts haven't lost since.

These weekly rankings are supposed to give you a snapshot into how teams are trending/playing at this moment in time, so let's revist that. How have the Celts been?

- Best record in the NBA

- Best home record in the NBA

- Most road wins in the NBA

- Best record vs teams .500 or better in the NBA

- Best point differential in the NBA

- Best net rating in the NBA

- 2nd best offense in the NBA

- 2nd best defense in the NBA

Call me crazy, but that's a team that's probably the best in the NBA at the moment, even with the loss to OKC. My favorite part for this decision had to be the rationale

You see, who cares that they got down big to ATL and BKN and lost those games, they came back and almost won! Meanwhile, the Celtics 18 point comeback to make it a 2 point game against OKC didn't matter, because it was a loss

You look at some of the replies to that tweet and even OKC fans are a little confused as to how they could be in the top spot, but not me.

This is just part of the playbook. It's boring to keep the Celts at the top of these things every week, that's not going to get you engagement and people clicking on your story. Since there's absolutely zero drama surrounding the team right now, what are the talking head shows going to do? Easy. Say Tatum's title window is over because he lost a single regular season game in January.

I know between blogging the Cowherd take and then this NBA.com take it can come off like I'm extremely triggered by these things. I would say that's only partly true. A younger me would have gone scorched earth, but a now older, more mature me sits back and mostly laughs. It's just sad at this point. We don't need to be lying about the Celtics just to generate traffic and eyeballs. Their play speaks for themselves.

I could understand if this was perhaps a debatable topic, but it really isn't. The Celtics are the best team in the NBA and have been since the season started. The record, the stats, the eye test etc all show it. Time will tell if any of this matters once we get to the playoffs, but we still have 4+ months and over half the season to go, so nobody can answer that question just yet.

And honestly, all this kind of stuff does is just bring on unwarranted slander towards the Thunder. They've had an awesome season, SGA is playing like an MVP, and they're positioned to make a big time move at the deadline if Sam Presti decides now is the time to strike. It's OK for that to be enough! We don't need to be having SGA > Tatum debates, and we don't need to try and lie and suggest that as of today, the Thunder are the best team in the NBA.

So to me, this is how as a Celts fan you truly know how good this team is. When you've reached the stage where the media is bored with your success and will do anything to be different and garner attention, you're probably doing something right.
